Anestis Gourgiotis

Assistant Professor (under appointment)

Anestis Gourgiotis work in the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy the since 2000, in the Directorate of Spatial Planning. Today he is the head of the Department of Special Spatial Plans in this Directorate. He studied regional planning at the University of Bordeaux in France, he was trained in Urban Planning with the postgraduate title “DESS Urbanisme Operational” and his Phd at the University of Thessaly. During the years 2002 -2005 he was the National Representative of the Ministry of Environment and Energy in the Council of the European Union in Brussels, detached to the Permanent Greek Representation in the EU. In the Ministry of Environment and Energy, he was involved, among other things, in the elaboration of the Special Spatial Plan for Renewable Energy Sources-RES, f the Mountainous Area, Tourism, and for Mineral Raw Materials.
He represented the Greek Ministry in the Conference of Ministers responsible for Regional Planning (CEMAT) in the Council of Europe, and the OECD Working Groups.
He teach also Spatial Planning at the National Center for Public Administration and Local Government and in the Department of Planning and Regional Development in the University of Thessaly. He has worked as a scientific consultant for the preparation and organization of international conferences, and in 1995-1996 he worked as a scientific associate at Unesco, Paris, and In April 1996, he worked as a expert associate of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions in Dublin, Ireland, for the organization and preparation of the conference on Urban Innovations for the HABITAT II World Conference held in Istanbul in June of 1996.
